Ambi and ‘Pyro-Aesthetics’

Article de presse : Les Nouvelles, 3 février 2014 Ambi and ‘Pyro-Aesthetics’

Ando Rakotovoahangy, 3 February 2014.

The article presents the exhibition “A-fo” by Ambinintsoa Andrianjakarivelo, known as Ambi, at Is’art galerie Analakely (from 30 January to 5 February): around thirteen works born of her “pyro-aesthetics,” a mastery of canvas-covered card, soga and Antemoro paper shaped by controlled fire. After leaving Madagascar for France in 2000, Ambi earned a Deug in fine arts and also tried her hand at sewing and hairdressing.

The article touches on the administrative difficulties she went through, including a court appearance, which feed into part of her work. It closes with her wish to share her passion with the public and with Malagasy craftspeople.

Fire is usually seen as a destructive, devastating element. […] I would like to make it a constructive one.
