Ambi, or When Fire and Wood Speak of the World

Article de presse : La Provence, 10 juin 2015 Ambi, or When Fire and Wood Speak of the World

M.G., 10 June 2015.

The article ties Ambi’s path back to Madagascar, where the relationship between fire and wood shapes everyday life: fire that destroys the primary forest, fire that feeds charcoal braziers, fire that inspires Malagasy artists skilled at working the wood around them. Through fire and wood, Ambi expresses her resilience to a difficult past, burning shapes into Antemoro paper made from alvoha bark, which regenerates on its own.

About fifteen works are on show at Galerie Vincent Bercker, in the exhibition “Tous Égaux.” Two more are shown in Marseille, as part of the group exhibition Consul’Art, for which Madagascar chose Ambi as its representative.

Summary of the original article, signed M.G., under the title “Ambi ou quand feu et bois parlent du monde.”
